Birdhouse Bling

Rya's birdhouse brings all the birds to the yard.  Damn right it's better than yours.

Miss Rya D.

Rya says, "I want someone to talk to" so I say, "Rya, you can talk to ME anytime about anything!" She says, "Yeah I know but I want to talk to someone who isn't YOU!"... Go fuck yourself, Kid.

Arrivederci

Chuck has been tutoring Currier in Italian for the past three years and sadly we had to say arrivederci to him over the weekend as he begins a new journey in Kentucky.  We're hoping another member of the Italian Meet Up Group will take over the lessons but we're certain no one will be as patient and sweet as Chuck.

First Grade Lunch

Rya and I went and met Currier for lunch in the cafeteria.  We smuggled in chocolate chip cookies for him and his buddies.  Once again, I win coolest mom award.

Capers Island

The neighbors, Lisa and Gary, were kind enough (and brave enough) to invite us all out on their boat for the day.

They took us to Capers Island for a day of drinking, eating, fishing, laughing and playing.

It was a super fun day that left us all drunk, sun burned and exhausted.

Except for Currier.  He was the only one sober enough to drive us home.

Bitter Sweet

I just told Currier that I think I might have found Penny a family.  If you look closely you can actually see his little heart breaking.  So bitter sweet.

See a Penny Pick it Up

And all day long you'll have good luck! Meet Penny, my new foster child from the Charleston Animal Society. A desperate plea was sent out today as the kennel met its max. We all know what happens to the dogs in the overflow room so I piled the kids and dogs in the car and together we chose Penny to come stay with us until we can find her a forever home. She is a one-year-old brindle terrier mix. She's teeny tiny, super friendly and ridiculously lovable. If you're interested in adopting Penny, please contact me or the Charleston Animal Society.

Yes Ma'am

Just a few weeks in the South Carolina school system and this child is all "yes ma'am. No ma'am. Thank you ma'am". He's also coming home with great conduct reports. I'm a proud ma'am!

For the Glory of a Marathon

I have runner's knee which is a loose term for "you're too old for this shit". The physical therapist said this is a very common over training injury. I've had to take some time off to heal. Today marks one week of ice, rest and Motrin. It's just starting to feel better and I might attempt a short run tomorrow to get back in the game. It's six weeks till the half marathon in Savannah and sixteen weeks till the full at Disney.  No more whammies, please!

Definitely My Offspring

I see three things wrong with this picture= 1. Rainboots on wrong feet.  2.  Two cases of beer not on ice?  3.  One asshole dog digging through the trash!

Mermaid

Rya told me she wanted to be a mermaid when she grows up so I asked Currier what he wanted to be: "a fisherman that hunts and kills mermaids".

Almost to the Baker's Dozen

This morning's 12 mile run was from Patriot's Point over the East Cooper Bridge to the Battery and back and it was surprisingly much better than last week's 10 miler.  I was more prepared for this run.  I hydrated more, ate more and sleep more the day before the run.  It also didn't hurt adding Run DMC to my running playlist and having an incredible view of the sunrise over the East Cooper.  Some people think I'm crazy to wake up at 5AM to run.  I think those people are crazy not to!

Now I'm paying the kids nickels to rub my feet and bring me Gatorade.  I couldn't do any of this without their support and encouragement.

Serious Soccer

Tonight was Currier's first soccer practice. Half way through he yelled, "Hey Coach, so when are we gonna battle another team?!"

Hitting the Wall

I ran ten miles this morning with the Try Sports Run Club.  We ran from the Sullivan's Island Fire Station to Shem Creek and back.  It was a great run until mile nine. That was when my runner's high wore off and all I felt was pain.  Excruciating pain! My mind was flooded with self doubt and for a few crazy minutes I started second guessing this goal, fantasizing about stuffing my face with pancakes and wondering if I overslept and this was all just a nightmare?  I guess this is what runners refer to as "hitting the wall".  It took every ounce of mental strength to pick myself up and muster up the will to keep going.  I've spent most of my day laying in bed recovering and hydrating my silly, starved brain with lots of water and carbs.  Next week we're up to twelve miles.  Dear God, please don't let me experience the dreaded "shitting pants in public"!
