Team Player

This afternoon The Banana Slugs football team had an end of season pizza party at Coach Colby's house on Daniel Island.  Rya was very proud to receive a medal and a trophy but she said she never wants to play football again.  What's next for Rya?  Gymnastics!

Roadtrip to KnoxVegas

Rya and I took our first road trip with just the two of us.  On Wednesday, we drove up to Carrie's in Knoxville (about a six hour drive) to return her car.  Rya and I had a blast on the drive up.  We sang, we chatted, we snacked and we laughed.

While at Carrie's I did some organizing projects as a small token of my appreciation for her loaning us her car for so long.  She really is the kindest and most generous person I know!

Trent and Currier drove up after school/work on Friday.  We promised the kids snow so we drove up to Gatlinburg and took them to the ski resort for a snowball fight.  This lead to some crying and a blow to my neck that knocked my back out of alignment (those little bastards play dirty!) but it was still fun and awesome to see the kids play in snow for the first time.

Before heading back home we went out to eat at Senor Taco (for the third time that week!)  I fibbed to the waiter and said it was Rya's birthday so she'd get free dessert and whipped cream in the face.  It was the first time I saw her experience embarrassment.  Unfortunately she's in for a lot of that with me as her mother.

Valentine's Day

Back by popular demand, we made the same Valentine's as last year.  Thanks to Pintrest for this adorable idea.

The Season's Final Touch Down

This morning was Currier's final football game and he scored the sweetest touchdown in the history of Daniel Island Flag Football and he pulled the flag on the final play of the game.

His team, The Sharks, were pretty bad ass and played a killer season.

  Especially this guy!

Blizzard of 2013

My brother just sent me this picture from Ipswich, MA and my Facebook newsfeed is riddled with the Blizzard of 2013.  There's cool images of snow covering doorways and grinning children (and adults!) sledding and creating snow angels and building memories to last a lifetime. There's shocking reports that the Park Lunch and The Thirsty Whale are closed forcing patrons to get blackout drunk in the privacy of their own homes (gasp). There's complaints of shoveling and driving bans and the possibility of another storm coming this Thursday. There's sexual innuendoes flying around every time someone mentions "inches" or "plowed" (almost always instigated by me). There's worry about my precious Plum Island taking more of a pounding (OH, Baby!) than she can handle and there's a mandatory evacuation of Salisbury Beach instantly causing me to crave Cristy's Pizza (corner slice extra provolone of course). My newsfeed is making me feel homesick and thankful I live in the South all at once.

Spa-Spa-Spoiled

The original plan was to get my eyebrows waxed but Rya and I somehow got talked into chocolate facials at my friend Elizabeth's spa Shealy Skin Spa and it was heavenly!

BFFL Birthday

Currier's BFFL, Conner , turned 7-years-old today and they celebrated in typical 7-year-old style with a jumpy castle, corn hole, pinata and donuts while the 40-somethings drank beer and talked shit about people.

Show & Tell

Today I brought Rosy into Currier's classroom for show and tell.

Currier stood in front of the class and explained that Rosy will grow up to 24 inches and can live up to 20 years.  He grossed the girls out by telling them that he feeds Rosy live crickets and worms everyday.  All the kids got a turn to hold Rosy and she did very well letting all those little hands pass her back and forth.

After show and tell, I took Rosy to the lunch room and let her experience pure chaos first grade style.
