Gymnastics

I had to scan this picture three times before finding Rya!
I've never seen her so thrilled in my life. Yay, gymnastics!

Soccer Mom

I'm not cut out to be a soccer mom. I don't stand on the side lines screeching, "Get the ball! Get the ball!" I don't yell at my son during halftime, "If you're not out of breath and dripping sweat then you're not working hard enough!" I sit on the sidelines quietly watching and occasionally when my eyes meet my son's I wink and give him the thumbs up.

Currier played goalie for part of the game tonight and let two goals by (he also saved two!) and one teammate shouted, "You suck" and the mom sitting two people down from me said, "C'mon! They need to change goalies!" Currier ran over to me for a sip of water and said, "I'm doing terrible." While giving Currier a hearty hug and staring that woman down I said, "You're doing fine. It's just a game. Just do your best and have fun!"

Later in the car I explained that team sports teach us what we are good at and not so good at. We have the opportunity to make the things we're good at great and the things we're not so good at better. It's our choice.  I also said, "Life is too short and too hard to worry about such silly dumbfuckery!"

Swimming

Both kids completed swim lessons this morning.  Both kids are at Level 3 and already swim WAY better than me.

Instructional Baseball

We signed Currier up for Instructional Baseball coached by the College of Charleston coaches and players.
Currier was thrilled to see that the Aukamp boys were also signed up for the program.  It was every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:15-8:00 which was late for school nights and hectic for family dinners.
Regardless he finished the program and received a trophy.  We're proud of him!

Gymnastics

Rya started gymnastics this morning.  Move over Mary Lou Retton!  There's a new sheriff in town.

Team Player

This afternoon The Banana Slugs football team had an end of season pizza party at Coach Colby's house on Daniel Island.  Rya was very proud to receive a medal and a trophy but she said she never wants to play football again.  What's next for Rya?  Gymnastics!

The Season's Final Touch Down

This morning was Currier's final football game and he scored the sweetest touchdown in the history of Daniel Island Flag Football and he pulled the flag on the final play of the game.

His team, The Sharks, were pretty bad ass and played a killer season.

  Especially this guy!

Flag Football Season Begins

Today was the first football game of the season.  This is Currier's fourth year playing flag football on Daniel Island and I gotta brag a little that he's getting really good!

And this is Rya's first year playing flag football and I gotta admit she's pretty good at NOT listening and just fooling around!

Soccer Season Finale

Tonight was Currier's final soccer game.  They had a great season and Currier did well.  I'm secretly thankful it's over.  I'm not cut out to be a "soccer mom".  Practice was twice a week at dinner time and I struggled to "do it all".  My family had a lot cereal for dinner these past two months.

Serious Soccer

Tonight was Currier's first soccer practice. Half way through he yelled, "Hey Coach, so when are we gonna battle another team?!"

Gymnastics

Currier's gymnastics class put on an end of the year show/recital.  To the beat of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song his class did flips, cartwheels and hand stands before each boy showed off their skills on the rings and uneven bars.  It was a cool performance and I loved seeing the pride in his eyes when he received his very first trophy!

Daniel Island Flag Football

Currier started his 3rd season of Flag Football with the Daniel Island YMCA.  It's impressive how much he "gets it" this year.  He's not just goofing around.  He's pulling flags with a vengeance and scoring touchdowns like he owns the field.

Stanley Cup Champions 2011

Currier only watched the 1st period last night before we put him to bed.  The first thing out of his mouth this morning was, "Did my Bruins win the Stanley Cup?"

We love that dirty water!

Flag Football Season Kick Off

We kicked off another season of flag football on Daniel Island on a very chilly and windy Saturday morning.  Currier is on the Wildcats team and they wiped the field with the opposing team's asses!  Just kidding... there's no score keeping.  To prevent tears, everyone gets a chance to run a touchdown and everyone gets a chance to pull a flag.  The kids love it!
